Connect your AI assistant (MCP)
Last updated:
You can connect Frontier Legal search to the AI assistant you already use. Once connected, the assistant searches Turkish court decisions and legislation inside the conversation, reads the full text of the decisions it finds, and cites them by their docket reference. The connection uses MCP (Model Context Protocol) and is read-only: the assistant cannot reach your matters, documents or account settings.
1. What you need
A Frontier Legal account with a verified email address, on the Solo, Pro or Office plan. On the free plan the assistant connects but cannot search. Plans: https://frontier.legal/en/pricing/
An AI assistant that can add a remote MCP server and sign in with OAuth. Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor all can.
Server address: https://api.frontier.legal/mcp
2. How connecting works
The steps are the same in every assistant. You add the address above as a remote MCP server (some assistants call it a "custom connector"). The assistant sends you to the Frontier Legal sign-in page.
After you sign in, a consent page shows which assistant is asking and what it can reach. Approve it and you return to the assistant, connected.
The assistant never sees your password. It reads the authentication settings from the address itself; you do not enter a client ID, secret or API key.
3. Claude
Pro and Max: in Customize > Connectors choose "+ Add", then "Add custom connector". Name it "Frontier Legal", enter the address and finish with "Add". Then press "Connect" next to the connector.
Team and Enterprise: an organization owner adds the connector once (Organization settings > Connectors > "Add" > Custom > Web). Each member finds Frontier Legal in Customize > Connectors and presses "Connect" to sign in with their own account.
A Free account can add one custom connector. To use it in a conversation, open the Connectors menu from the "+" button at the lower left of the chat box and switch Frontier Legal on.
4. ChatGPT
Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, then add Frontier Legal as a custom connector with its address. OpenAI changes the menu names and the plans that include this from time to time; OpenAI's help pages have the current steps.
To use it in a conversation, choose Frontier Legal from the "+" menu in the chat box.
5. Cursor and other assistants
Cursor: in ~/.cursor/mcp.json, add a server named "frontier-legal" under mcpServers and put the address in its url field. On first use Cursor opens the Frontier Legal sign-in in your browser.
Other clients that support remote MCP servers with OAuth connect to the same address. The client's own documentation says where to add a server.
6. Use it in a conversation
Once the connection is on, ask your question as usual. The assistant runs the searches when it needs them.
Example: "Find Court of Cassation decisions from the last five years on the equity reduction rate in rent determination cases, read the two most relevant in full and compare their reasoning."
Example: "Search for decisions holding a dismissal invalid because the employee was not heard first, and list them with their docket references."
Example: "Search the Competition Authority's price-fixing decisions since 2022 and summarise how the fines were reasoned."
7. Tools
search: runs a natural-language search; Turkish queries give the best results. You can narrow it to particular sources (for example the Court of Cassation, the Council of State, the Constitutional Court, regulators, legislation) and to a date range. It returns up to 10 decisions, each with an id, the citation (court, docket and decision numbers, date), a link to the publisher's own page and a snippet, plus the searches left this month.
fetch: returns the full text of a decision by the id a search returned. Only decisions your own searches returned can be read, once per search that returned them. To read the same decision again, search again.
Both tools are read-only. Neither writes, deletes or changes any data.
8. Usage allowance
Each search the assistant runs spends one search from your firm's monthly allowance, the same allowance searches in the app use. Reading a decision spends no credits.
A failed search spends nothing. At most two searches run at once for one user; a third is told to retry after one second and spends nothing.
9. Data and privacy
Frontier Legal receives only the search query, the filters chosen and the id of the decision to read. The rest of the conversation, files you uploaded to the assistant and the assistant's memory never reach us.
The assistant's searches appear in the app's History page, tagged with the assistant's name. Queries are processed like searches in the app; the subprocessors are listed in the Privacy Policy and the Data Processing Agreement: https://frontier.legal/en/privacy/
The assistant receives an access token that can only search, lasts one hour and renews itself. A connection unused for 30 days ends.
10. Disconnect
In the app, remove the connection under Account > Connected assistants (https://app.frontier.legal/account). The assistant's next search is refused. You can also remove it in the assistant's own settings.
11. Troubleshooting
When a tool refuses, it tells the assistant why and what fixes it, in Turkish; the assistant relays the message to you.
"MCP bağlantısı Solo, Pro veya Ofis planı gerektirir" means your plan does not include MCP; upgrade it. "E-posta adresiniz doğrulanmadan arama yapılamaz" means your email address is not verified yet; confirm the verification email from frontier.legal.
"Firmanızın bu ayki arama hakkı doldu" means the monthly allowance is used up; it renews on the date in the message. "Bu karar, onu döndüren aramadan sonra zaten okundu" means the full text is already in an earlier reply; search again to read it again.
